Selky becomes a citizen
In 2019, my friends and I started visiting Cameroonian asylum seeker Selky Azaah, who was detained in the Aurora Contract Detention Center. He didn’t have access to an attorney, so we raised money to hire one to represent Selky in immigration court.
Selky won asylum in August 2019, inspiring us to launch CIJF to fund legal services for more immigrants in detention.
Selky settled in Denver, and his family joined him from Cameroon in 2022. He is now a beloved member of the CIJF Board.
Last month, Selky took his citizenship test, answering every question correctly, and will officially become a US citizen within a few weeks!
