CIJF partners with immigrant church

Juan Peña is originally from Colombia and pastors an immigrant church in Denver. Most of the several hundred people who attend Juan’s church arrived in the US within the last two years. 

Since the ICE raids began in Denver last January, over 40 congregants from Juan’s church have been detained.

CIJF is partnering with Juan to provide rapid response legal consultations for members of his congregation who are detained in Aurora, CO. 

Over the last 10 days, CIJF-funded attorneys met with 14 detained congregants. CIJF has agreed to fund the asylum case for 1 congregant, and will likely do so for three additional immigrants who appear to have strong asylum cases.
