Help us free our African friend from detention!

“Yusuf” is a software engineer who was brutally attacked and beaten in his West African home country, sustaining severe injuries for which he was denied medical help.  After the mob tried to burn him alive, he fled for his life.  He went into hiding after extremist groups threatened his family members when they wouldn’t give him up.  He fled to the US in July 2025 where he remains in ICE detention.

The Colorado Immigrant Justice Fund hired highly capable immigration attorneys who are representing him in immigration court. Due to their good work, a bond hearing will be held for Yusuf sometime during the week of July 6, and it appears likely that Yusuf will be granted a bond for $5,000 or potentially much higher.

We need your help to give ‘Yusuf’ and others their freedom. Please consider donating today.  Your gift today can turn fear into freedom and uncertainty into hope.

If more money is donated than what is needed for Yusuf, we will use excess funds for the legal needs of other CIJF clients. All gifts are tax-deductible.

July 8, 2026 Update

Two highly respected immigration attorneys are representing Yusuf. Today, with only two hours' notice, they were informed that the hearing was scheduled for 1:00 PM at the Aurora Detention Center. One of his attorneys rushed to the center to represent him.

Unfortunately, we have devastating news. For reasons that our legal team views as entirely unjustified, Yusuf's bond was denied.

If Yusuf does not appeal this decision, he faces deportation, where he would be in grave danger. He is not ready to give up, and his attorneys believe there are still viable legal avenues to fight this case. The Colorado Immigrant Justice Fund (CIJF) intends to stand by him and continue funding his legal defense.
